What Is the Best Metal for Your Lighting Plan?

During our initial design consults we typically ask our clients what metal they prefer for their lighting plan. Sometimes clients know right away what they want and other times they turn to us for advice on the topic. Choosing the right metal can be hard! But there are some tricks to help you decide!

Here is a list of typical metals we see our clients choosing from. Now there are more than this, but these are the most common types.

  • Matte Black

  • Brass

  • Brushed Nickel

  • Chrome

  • Oil Rubbed Bronze

Our typical favorites are matte black and brushed brass, however there are definite times where a classic brushed nickel or chrome are necessary. We are not a big fan of oil rubbed bronze. That tends to look out dated. The good news is that you can also mix your metals. We love mixing matte black and brass in the same area. This provides a nice contrast. We try to stay with no more than 2 metals in a general area. Take a look at this lighting plan we made for our client who wanted a coastal feel throughout their house.
